“We want to see people free from the devastating effects of substance use disorder and addiction. But if we can’t convince them at that moment to do that, it’s better to keep them, and the community, as safe as possible.”

Syringe Services Program
In 2019, we launched a mobile syringe services program in Lewis County. Syringe services programs (SSP) are community-based programs providing a range of services that create a safer community and prevent the spread of disease. SSPs are proven to save lives while helping those with substance use disorders get the support they need. This evidence-based, cost-saving, proven solution saves lives in Centralia and the surrounding area. Between 2022 and 2023, at least 30 people who accessed the SSP successfully entered treatment.
The Gather SSP is saving lives, preventing disease and overdose, and improving our community. The Washington State Department of Health has praised our program and the Seattle Times featured the program as the potential “secret sauce” in fighting the opioid epidemic.
The Gather SSP provides:
Sterile injection supplies to reduce the risk of disease
Safe disposal of syringes and needles to keep our community cleaner and safer
Testing so our clients can pursue long term health
